Cuttack Durga Puja Clash Updates 2025 – Six Arrested After Idol Immersion Violence

 

Introduction :

A bloody war erupted later that Friday night in the Durga Puja idol immersion or Dargha Bazaar area of Cuttack. Six individuals were arrested in relation to the incident by Commissionerate Police. Six others among them Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo were injured and admitted to the hospital to receive treatment.

A violent altercation happened when the idol of Durga Puja was being immersed in Dargha Bazaar, Cuttack.

This occurred at around 1.30 a.m. when the procession of Jhanjhirimangala Puja Committee was passing through Hatipokhari.

There was tension between some songs being played that locals were said to object to.

DCP Rishikesh Dnyandeo, and five others, were injured by stone-pelting.

According to the Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, six of them were caught on camera and on drone footage during arrest.

DCP Dnyandeo had suffered a stab wound to the eye and required stitches, but he is now fine.

The additional police forces have been deployed and the investigation is still in progress.

Cuttack is well known due to its spectacular Durga Puja festivals annually. Big idol immersion events were held in this year in a number of committees in the city. Even though there was an increase in security, there were some areas where tension existed. According to the police, any person who is suspected of being involved in such violent acts will face the full arm of the law in a bid to keep the peace during the festivals.
