Odisha curfew Intensified in Cuttack After Durga puja Clashes 2025: Internet Ban extended

 Introduction

The city of Cuttack is still on high curfew after a violent commotion erupted in the immersion of idols of Durga Puja. The police have put a 36 hour curfew on 13 areas of police station in an effort to ensure law and order. The movement of people has been fully limited with unnecessary services.

Causes of the Curfew

The fights broke out on Sunday evening at the time of the immersion ceremony and caused a lot of tension and disorder. In retaliation, the Commissionerate Police promptly issued curfew deceses, blocked internet access and posted massive security forces around the city.

Current Situation and Police Action.

More than 100 platoons of police which comprise 8 CRPF companies and 1 RAF company have been deployed in Cuttack. Top police officers are keeping a close eye on the events and DCP Rishikesh Dyan Deo and Commissioner S. Devadatta Singh have been touring the main areas.

Eight individuals have already been arrested by the police concerning the unrest, and the three cases are registered. CCTV images are also being studied to get more suspects.

Internet Services Suspension

A ban on the internet that was first issued on Sunday night, lasting 24 hours, has been further increased by another 24 hours as at now, lasting until Tuesday 7 PM. This limitation is applicable to CMC, CDA, and Bayalish Mouza of prohibiting apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and Snapchat to avoid misinformation.

Public Impact

The normally crowded places of Cuttack such as Badambadi, Malgodown and Choudhury Bazaar were empty. There was a lack of transport and the few buses in use could not get to every part of the city and the markets, offices and shops were also shut down. Medical and emergency services were the only ones allowed to operate.

Fire services have maintained seven rescue teams in case of emergencies. The curfew has also stopped the Saanta Sahi Kumarastsav festival.

Health Services Disrupted

Ayushman Bharat cardholders are also hit hard by the internet shutdown since they could not have their hospital registration done online. Many patients were observed waiting in the private hospitals in order to get treatment again.

Officials’ Statement

DGP Sanjay Kumar said that Cuttack is slowly regaining its peace. The situation has been controlled, and no new untoward incidents have been reported. We also request the citizens not to spread rumors and assist the police instead, he added.

Conclusion

Officials will discuss the situation on Tuesday and then make a decision whether or not to extend the curfew. The police have given an assurance that it will deal with anyone who will be taking part in creating unrest.
